Common questions

Short answers to what people ask me most. Questions about one type of insurance are on its own page.

What does it cost to use a broker like me?

Nothing directly. The insurer pays the agency a commission that's built into the premium, so you don't get a separate bill for my advice or a quote.

How is a broker different from an insurance company?

An insurance company sells its own products. I work through InsureBC, which deals with several insurers, so I can compare your options and explain the differences.

Do you work with people outside Squamish?

Yes. My licence covers all of BC, and most of my work happens by phone, email and e-signature. Where you live makes no difference to the process.

How does a quote work?

You answer a few questions online or by phone. I take the details to the insurers available through InsureBC, then come back with options and explain the trade-offs. Nothing is in force until it's confirmed in writing.

Can you renew my ICBC Autoplan?

Yes, by phone. New plates and buying or selling a vehicle have to be done in person at a broker office. ICBC also lets eligible drivers renew online.

Is earthquake insurance included in BC?

No. Earthquake is optional in BC and priced on its own, usually with a deductible set as a percentage of your coverage. I'll price it with any home or condo quote so you can decide.

Does home insurance cover flooding?

Not automatically. Flooding from outside and sewer backup are extras you add, separate from damage like a burst pipe. Ask me to price both before you find out at claim time.

Does home insurance cover Airbnb or short-term rentals?

Not unless your insurer knows and agrees. Short-term rental use is usually left out, and hosting without telling your insurer can put a claim at risk. Tell me before you list.

What happens if I need to make a claim?

Report it to your insurer, or call me first if you'd like help. The insurer's adjuster decides the claim under your policy. I explain the process and follow up for you.

How do you handle my information?

I use it to get quotes and arrange your insurance. It goes to the insurers I ask to quote and stays in InsureBC's client files. My privacy page has the details.
